We are here in NY. Long day flying across from Seattle, but all went well. We had plenty of time to get through the long security line up and then good flight to Milwaukee – on edge of same lake as Chicago but further north. Was very pretty coming in to land there. Our next flight was only 2 gates which was already boarding, so not a long wait in airport thankfully.
Arrived early into NY –
very nice view coming in to land. Had a bit of a mission finding a transport
option though. I had tried to book online but website didn't work for shuttle company and it was very busy. In the end best option
was a” minivan” yellow taxi cab and a slightly hair-raising ride through back
streets of Harlem and the Bronx as President Obama was in town which had
gridlocked the usual route.
The hotel is great.
Definitely quaint New York 3 star but fantastic location and clean. Joel was a real trooper sleeping on the floor with folded quilts for a mattress. Saved us $500 though at least! It is a pretty safe area and overlooking the
river just 2 blocks from Broadway.
This is the view across other apartments lining our street along the river. There are some really lovely buildings in the area, with ornate carved concrete and cute front entrances.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
Honking horns and sirens, helicopters over head make for a noisy city.
Everyone is going somewhere, rushing past with cell phones in use and coffee in hand.
Cars squeeze through very tight spots on the narrow streets and people leave their wing mirrors in
The homeless huddle in doorways,
NYPD are very visible
I heard more passing comments in more languages in 3 days than in last 5 years I think.
The locals are super friendly - especially the ones trying to sell you something :-)
